If you have been arrested for drunk driving in Tennessee, then you will surely find yourself dealing with SR22 filing. Generally, an SR22 Tennessee comes to play when you are arrested for driving under the influence of alcohol. It is usually the state Public Safety of Tennessee that requires proof of liability insurance coverage to those convicted DUI drivers. This gives assurance to the state that the SR22 driver is financially capable of covering anyone who gets injured or any property that gets damaged of an at fault accident. So before you are allowed to drive again on the road after involving in an accident, you need to present to the state your SR22 form. A driver’s license remains to be suspended if an SR22 in not filed yet in Tennessee. An SR22 Tennessee is a requirement by the state if you are a high risk driver. If you are required to carry an SR22 Tennessee, you need to ask your current auto insurance provider to file an SR22 form for you. As a high risk DUI driver, your company will charge you with high SR22 insurance premiums. Sometimes, you may find it difficult to look for an insurance company that caters SR22 drivers. So it is recommended to high risk drivers to shop around for local insurance companies that are willing to file for SR22 insurance. You also need to inform your SR22 insurance provider if you wish to cancel your SR22 insurance before its termination date. Under SR22 laws, an insurance company needs to notify the state DMV of any canceled SR22 insurance.

The best way to avoid spending more on your insurance premiums is simply not to drive under the influence of alcohol. If you are already an SR22 driver, do not wait for your SR22 insurance and your license to be suspended altogether. Avoid getting into multiple moving violations over a short period of time.

Reader’s Question:

How long do I have to carry the sr22 in Tennessee for first offense of DUI?

Willie

Thank you for asking Willie.

The Tennessee Department of Safety states that a financial responsibility or sr22 may be required for a period of five (5) years from your date of suspension. If the SR-22 is filed for within the five (5) year period only, the SR-22 may be terminated so long as it is not required anymore on any other suspension. The SR-22 would not be required if 5 years pass from the date of suspension before you reinstate your privileges. If the SR-22 is cancelled before the required period that you should carry it and a new form is not filed, this will result to suspension of your driving privileges.

A SR-22 form is proof of future financial responsibility If you are required to file a SR-22, then you may contact your insurance provider and inform them of the needed filing with your state. The form must be filed by an insurance provider licensed through the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance to issue auto liability insurance coverage in the state of Tennessee. The minimum limits of liability required in Tennessee is 25/50/10. The forms must be issued from a liability insurance company.

Goodluck!
