Tennessee insurance
Reader’s Question:
I just moved to Tennessee. But I was required from my previous state to carry sr22. Do I still have to continue it since Im already licensed in TN?

Thank you for asking Marx.
The Financial Responsibility certificate or the SR-22 insurance is being used differently in various states. This policy is generally a liability insurance policy for motor vehicles that is requirement for reinstating your drivers license after its has been suspended or revoked. The SR22 insurance policy requires the insurance provider to inform the department of motor vehicles if the policy is canceled, terminated, or lapses. Your drivers license will be suspended until the policy is brought current or has been reinstated. According to the laws of most states, you need to carry SR-22 insurance of the financial responsibility for a certain period (often three years) after the end of your suspension or revocation.
If you are applying for a drivers license in another state, you will most likely need to continue to carry with an SR22 policy. You may contact the Department of Motor Vehicles in Tennessee and Illinois to make sure if it is still required.
Goodluck!
