TN car insurance rate
Reader’s Question:
Can you please tell me the penalties for not having an auto insurance? I live in Tennessee.
Eric
Thank you for asking Eric.
According the Tennessee Department of Safety a conviction for failure to provide evidence of financial responsibility will be a Class C misdemeanor punishable only by a fine of not more than one hundred dollars ($100.00). In addition to that, once the State is notified of a conviction, the violator’s drivers license will be suspended.
You can make a payment for the reinstatement fees (typically $20) and reinstate your license online at Tennessee’s government website.
The cost and fines for tickets must be paid to the court in the city, or county where it was issued. If you are a licensed driver in TN the court may have already informed the department to suspend your drivers license for failure to pay or appear in court on the violation. Also, a reinstatement fee may be owed to department at the same time. If you have a driver license issued from another state, and have received a notification of proposed suspension from your driver license office, you should get in touch with the licensing authorities in your home state. If you fail to pay the fines and costs or if you fail to appear in court on minor violations issued in Tennessee, it is automatically forwarded from the courts to the state issuing the driver license.
Goodluck!
